For many customers, backup is not a “nice-to-have” capability, but a foundational requirement driven by compliance, audit, and security mandates. In these environments, recovery performance, cost efficiency, and reliable operation at scale are key differentiators.</p> <p>The platform is designed to protect, back up, and recover large volumes of cloud data using a cloud-native architecture. The control and management plane scales dynamically based on workload characteristics such as the number of protected assets and the volume of events processed. A shared platform abstracts complexity from the underlying data management layer, enabling a consistent and seamless experience across supported data sources.</p> <p>Beyond core backup and recovery, the platform provides essential non-backup capabilities including customer onboarding, metering and billing, reporting, alerting, and machine-learning-driven insights that enable customers to make smarter, cost-effective decisions about data protection. The team operates a mature, production-proven platform on AWS and is actively expanding into multi-cloud data protection across GCP and Azure.</p> <h2>Role Overview</h2> <p>As a Senior Principal Engineer on the Clumio Platform team, you are a senior technical authority for platform correctness, durability, and scale guarantees, reporting to the Engineering Director. This role operates at a company-critical scope, combining deep hands-on engineering with product-wide technical leadership and multi-year architectural ownership over systems that directly underpin customer trust, compliance, and business credibility.</p> <p>You define and drive the long-term technical and product-facing vision for the control and management plane across the Clumio platform, spanning core critical components like backup and restore triggers, resource and task management, billing, metering, onboarding, reporting, alerting, AI feature sets, and failure handling across multiple cloud environments. You are responsible not only for the architectural integrity of these systems, but also for helping translate ambiguous customer, business, and product needs into clear technical strategy and execution plans. You work closely with the Engineering Director and Product leadership to shape roadmaps, sequence major initiatives, and ensure technical investments align with long-term product goals.</p> <p>You lead the organization's complex, high-risk, and ambiguous initiatives—projects where requirements are few, problem boundaries are unclear, and tradeoffs have significant customer and business impact. This includes defining problem spaces, driving cross-functional alignment, designing systems with provable correctness, rigorously analyzing failure modes and recovery paths, and setting technical standards that ensure durability, security, and recoverability at scale.</p> <p>While remaining deeply hands-on, you operate at a broader organizational scope than other individual contributors. You mentor Principal Engineers and senior technical leaders, guide teams through ambiguous design spaces, and serve as the escalation point for the most critical architectural and product-impacting decisions.
