Military Grades: E4 through E7 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates you have the ability to acquire the practical knowledge of industry practices and procedures and the established regulations, requirements, and techniques related to a transportation functional program. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 1-year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade involving the movement of freight or passengers and determining transportation and operating costs. Experience participating in the direction and coordination of traffic management functions. Experience interpreting and providing routine advice on carrier tariffs and related routing guides. Interpreting regulations/requirements and developing local policies to implement changes effectively. Experience applying applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations concerning transportation and traffic procedures. Experience preparing reports and recommendations involving appeals, special permits, adjustments in rates and charges. Experience which involved negotiations with carriers on individual shipments or traffic movement. Experience in making effective presentations both orally and in writing. Work Environment: Work is generally performed in an office or similar setting, which involves minimal risk or discomfort and requires normal safety precautions. Some exposure to moderate discomforts results from working in the warehouse and packing areas with low/high temperature, high humidity, or drafty or noisy conditions. There is also risk of physical injury when working around large crates and uncrated items. Physical Effort: Work is primarily sedentary, although some physical effort is required when walking, standing, bending, or carrying light items. Occasionally lifts and carries parts, equipment, and packed containers when assisting subordinates with their work.
