Technical Lead - Regional Systems (Remote, China)

About this role

BJAK is using AI, automation and backend systems to power end-to-end insurance operations. Our platform handles customer journeys including quotes, insurer integrations, document processing, policy issuance, endorsements and claims at scale.

We're looking for a talented Technical Lead based in China to design and build regional systems that support BJAK’s multi-market expansion, ensuring our platform can operate reliably across different countries, regulatory environments and insurance partners.

This is a fully remote position where you'll collaborate closely with our Malaysia-based engineering, product and operations teams to deliver scalable, production-grade systems across regions.

THE MISSION

Lead engineering efforts to design and build regional-ready systems that enable BJAK to scale across multiple markets, ensuring consistency, reliability and adaptability of insurance workflows across different countries and operational environments.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

- Lead design and delivery of regional system capabilities across BJAK’s platform.

- Translate multi-country business, operational and regulatory requirements into scalable system architecture.

- Design backend systems that support multi-region workflows, configurations and integrations.

- Build platform capabilities that allow insurance workflows to adapt across different markets.

- Define system design for localization, policy variations, insurer integrations and operational differences.

- Ensure consistency and reliability of core workflows across regions while supporting flexibility per market.

- Review architecture and implementation to ensure scalability, correctness and maintainability.

- Work closely with product, operations, QA and DevOps to deliver cross-regional initiatives.

- Improve system stability through monitoring, incident response, debugging and root cause analysis.

- Ensure safe and controlled production releases across multi-region deployments.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

- Strong software engineering experience building production-grade backend or distributed systems.

- Proven experience leading technical delivery of platform or multi-system initiatives.

- Ability to design scalable architectures that support multi-region or multi-tenant systems.

- Strong understanding of backend systems, APIs and distributed system principles.

- Experience working with complex business domains involving regional or regulatory differences.

- Hands-on engineering capability with willingness to contribute to implementation and code.

- Strong judgment on architecture trade-offs, system complexity and scaling challenges.

- Experience working with cross-functional teams including product and operations.

- Strong communication skills and ability to align technical decisions across stakeholders.

- Calm under pressure when handling production issues or complex system coordination.

- High ownership mindset with strong execution from design to production.

- Experience building multi-region, multi-tenant or globally distributed systems.

- Experience with localization, configuration-driven systems or policy-based architectures.

- Experience in regulated industries such as insurance, fintech or banking.

- Knowledge of Node.js, Python, Java or similar backend technologies.

- Experience with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines and production monitoring systems.

- Familiarity with observability tools (logging, metrics, tracing, alerting).

- Experience integrating third-party systems, APIs or external partners across regions.

- Experience scaling systems across different regulatory or operational environments.
