We are partnering with a large, modern regional referral hospital in coastal NSW, within easy reach of a major metropolitan centre, to recruit Anaesthetists to join a highly regarded and rapidly expanding Anaesthesia Department.
This is an outstanding opportunity to join a close-knit, consultant-led team with a strong culture of support, teaching and clinical excellence, within a purpose-built hospital that continues to grow in scope and capability.
The Hospital
This is a newly redeveloped, state-of-the-art public hospital servicing a large and growing population across its region.
Major regional referral centre within a large NSW Local Health District
Purpose-built modern facility with significant recent and ongoing expansion
Once fully expanded, the hospital will operate:
8 fully functional operating theatres
2 procedural rooms
Strong perioperative infrastructure including:
Advanced recovery and day-stay units
Interventional radiology and cardiology procedural support
Supported by a Level 5 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) providing post-operative and critical care services
The Anaesthesia Department
The Anaesthesia Department is a cornerstone clinical service within the hospital and is known for its exceptional culture, collegiality and leadership support.
Scope of Services
The department provides comprehensive anaesthetic services across a wide range of specialties, including:
General Surgery
Orthopaedics
Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Urology
ENT
Paediatrics
Ophthalmology
Endoscopy and procedural services
Diagnostic imaging and interventional procedures
Obstetric Anaesthesia
Recognised regional referral centre for obstetric care
Comprehensive obstetric anaesthesia service including:
Labour epidurals
Emergency and elective caesarean sections
Close collaboration with O&G, midwifery and neonatal teams
Pain Management
Expertise in both acute and chronic pain management
Integral role in perioperative and post-operative patient care
Team & Culture
You will be joining a small, highly cohesive consultant group comprising both Staff Specialists and VMOs, known for:

Teaching, Training & Leadership
This department has a strong education and training mandate and is:
Accredited for ANZCA training and GP Anaesthetic training
Involved in extended skills training for Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care
Actively involved in:
Medical student teaching
Junior doctor supervision
Simulation training
Ongoing professional development
There are opportunities for clinical leadership and operational involvement, contributing to the future direction of anaesthetic services across the wider network.
International Medical Graduates (SIMGs) – Strongly Encouraged
This service has a proven track record of successfully supporting Specialist International Medical Graduates, including doctors from the UK and other comparable health systems.
You will receive guidance through expedited SIMG specialist registration pathways, Relocation, Housing, Schooling and community integration for you and your familily.
Multiple SIMGs are currently thriving within the department.
Essential Requirements
Primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA
Fellowship of ANZCA or:
Nearing completion (within 6 months), or
Eligibility via approved overseas specialist pathways
Recent and comprehensive experience in Anaesthesia
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Commitment to teaching, supervision and quality improvement
Remuneration & Benefits
Competitive Staff Specialist or VMO remuneration (NSW Health awards)
