Learn more at <a href="http://getbuilt.com"><strong>getbuilt.com</strong>.</a><br>__________________________</p></div><p>Built is looking for a <strong>Staff Software Engineer </strong>to join our Data Platform team and lead the next generation of customer-facing data product experiences.</p> <p>In this role, you will build the application layer where Built’s data products are discovered, accessed, and used by customers. You will work across frontend, backend, APIs, services, and data-backed application workflows to turn platform capabilities into intuitive product experiences.</p> <p>The Data Platform team already has deep data engineering expertise. We are looking for a product-minded software engineer with strong full-stack application development experience to add depth to the team's software engineering capabilities. This includes thoughtful frontend experiences, well-designed backend services, durable APIs, practical architecture, strong testing practices, and a sharp instinct for what customers actually need.</p> <p>You will help overhaul Built’s application-facing data products platform. This includes customer-facing experiences such as data product hubs, market insights, benchmarking workflows, portfolio intelligence, and data-specific agents.</p> <p>The right person is a builder with taste. You care when a workflow technically works but still feels confusing. You notice when a requirement does not map to customer value. You can push back, offer better alternatives, and still partner well when tradeoffs are needed.</p> <h2><strong>WHAT YOU’LL DO</strong></h2> <ul> <li>Lead the design and delivery of Built’s application-facing data products platform, including product surfaces, backend services, APIs, frontend flows, and reusable patterns.</li> <li>Build full-stack customer experiences using TypeScript, React, Node.js, Python, and related technologies.</li> <li>Partner with Product to shape ambiguous ideas into useful customer workflows, challenge low-value requirements, and offer practical alternatives.</li> <li>Turn data science prototypes, analytics concepts, and platform capabilities into production-grade product experiences.</li> <li>Bring strong software engineering practices into a data-heavy team through technical design, code review, mentoring, testing, and delivery patterns.</li> <li>Help data engineers take on more software engineering work across frontend, backend, APIs, product decomposition, and production readiness.</li> <li>Collaborate across Built where data products integrate with application surfaces, platform capabilities, agents, or customer workflows.</li> <li>Use customer signals, usage data, product feedback, support issues, and discovery learnings to guide engineering decisions.</li> </ul> <h2><strong>SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED</strong></h2> <ul> <li>Staff-level software engineering experience with a track record of leading ambiguous, customer-facing product initiatives from idea through production.</li> <li>Strong product judgment, customer intuition, and ability to identify when a workflow or requirement does not create customer value.</li> <li>Full-stack web application experience, with backend-leaning product engineering depth.</li> <li>Strong experience with TypeScript, Node.js, React, and modern web application architecture.</li> <li>Experience with Python or demonstrated ability to work effectively in Python-based systems.</li> <li>Experience designing APIs, service boundaries, reusable application patterns, and production backend systems.</li> <li>Ability to write high-quality, maintainable code with strong instincts for testing, readability, observability, and operational ownership.</li> <li>Strong technical communication skills, including design docs, architecture discussions, and tradeoff analysis.</li> <li>Collaborative leadership style with the ability to challenge product direction constructively and mentor engineers without condescension.</li> <li>Bias toward customer value over technology for technology’s sake.</li> </ul> <h2><strong>PREFERRED</strong></h2> <ul> <li>Experience building data-heavy product experiences, analytics products, reporting workflows, benchmarking tools, dashboards, or decision-support products.</li> <li>Experience working with data engineers, analytics engineers, data scientists, or teams that productionize data science prototypes.</li> <li>Experience with AI or agentic product experiences.</li> <li>Familiarity with Snowflake, dbt, Kafka, Flink, Materialize, or similar data platform technologies.</li> <li>Experience in fintech, lending, banking, construction, real estate, compliance-heavy SaaS, or other domains where trust and correctness…
