Our platform is mission-critical for the businesses that rely on it every day, so reliability, scalability, and thoughtful execution matter deeply here.</p> <p>As a <strong>Staff Software Engineer</strong>, your primary focus will be to architect, build, and optimize our platform across the stack, from scalable frontend applications to high-performance backend services. At this level, you’ll be expected to drive technical excellence across multiple teams, shape engineering direction, and stay hands-on in the code where it matters most.</p> <p>You’ll lead major technical initiatives, influence architecture and best practices, mentor engineers, and partner closely with product, design, data, QA, and engineering leadership to deliver high-quality, scalable, and reliable software. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, brings strong systems thinking, and can translate long-term technical strategy into practical execution.</p> <p><strong>What You’ll Do</strong></p> <ul> <li>Architect, build, and maintain our full-stack platform, including <strong>React.js</strong> applications and high-performance backend services built with <strong>Node.js</strong>, <strong>GraphQL</strong>, and <strong>REST API’s</strong></li> <li>Lead technical decisions across the stack, balancing <strong>performance, maintainability, scalability, and developer experience</strong></li> <li>Design and optimize APIs and service patterns that support both our product experiences and third-party integrations</li> <li>Improve <strong>database design, query performance, and data models</strong> to ensure efficient storage and retrieval at scale</li> <li>Drive <strong>observability and operational excellence</strong> across services through logging, monitoring, tracing, alerting, and performance analysis</li> <li>Contribute to and lead engineering-wide initiatives that improve customer experience, system performance, productivity, and knowledge sharing</li> <li>Evaluate and introduce new technologies, patterns, and tooling that improve engineering efficiency and platform quality</li> <li>Define and reinforce strong testing practices across the stack in partnership with QA and engineering teams</li> <li>Mentor engineers through technical design reviews, architecture discussions, pair programming, and knowledge-sharing sessions</li> <li>Influence multiple engineering groups through technical leadership and cross-functional collaboration, not just direct ownership</li> </ul> <p><strong>What We Look For</strong></p> <p><strong>Must-Have Skills</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>8+ years</strong> of software engineering experience, with strong depth in modern <strong>JavaScript/TypeScript</strong> environments and experience leading large technical initiatives</li> <li>Strong experience building and evolving <strong>full-stack systems</strong>, with meaningful expertise in both frontend and backend architecture</li> <li>Deep experience with <strong>Node.js</strong>, <strong>GraphQL (Apollo or Relay)</strong>, and <strong>RESTful services</strong> in production systems</li> <li>Strong experience with <strong>React.js</strong> and scalable frontend architecture, including performance and state management considerations</li> <li>Proficiency with <strong>SQL databases</strong> such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, including schema design and query optimization</li> <li>Experience with <strong>event-driven systems</strong>, messaging infrastructure, and real-time data processing</li> <li>Experience with <strong>Docker</strong>, <strong>Kubernetes</strong>, and modern cloud infrastructure across AWS, GCP, or similar environments</li> <li>Strong understanding of <strong>CI/CD</strong>, automated testing, and scalable deployment practices</li> <li>Track record of mentoring engineers and raising the technical bar through influence, clarity, and execution</li> <li>Excellent communication and technical writing skills, with the ability to align engineers and partners across teams</li> </ul> <p><strong>Nice To Have Skils</strong></p> <ul> <li>Experience with <strong>Python</strong> for backend services, tooling, or automation workflows</li> <li>Experience improving design systems or UI platform foundations in partnership with frontend teams</li> <li>Experience leading initiatives that span platformization, service architecture, APIs, or financial/accounting systems</li> <li>Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field</li> </ul> <p><strong>Why BuildOps</strong></p> <ul> <li>You’ll work on software that is <strong>core to how real-world businesses operate every day</strong></li> <li>You’ll have the opportunity to influence the <strong>technical direction of a rapidly scaling platform</strong> and help shape how we build as…
