About this role

<p>We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our frontend team and play a critical role in building the platform that will define CaseGuard’s next chapter.</p> <p>You will design and build a highly performant, sophisticated frontend capable of handling complex media redaction directly in the browser. This role involves more than just building forms; you will be responsible for the architecture that supports real-time collaboration, complex document rendering, and high-stakes video manipulation.</p> <p><strong>This role is expected to operate with a high degree of ownership</strong>. You will take responsibility for major frontend features and drive them end-to-end from design through production with minimal oversight. Beyond writing excellent code, you will contribute to engineering standards, influence frontend architecture, and help scale both the system and the team.</p> <h3><strong>What You Will Do</strong></h3> <ul> <li>Build scalable, maintainable frontend applications using Next.js, React, and TypeScript.</li> <li>Implement advanced rendering and manipulation logic for PDF documents and video within the browser.</li> <li>Utilize WebGL and Canvas to ensure smooth, performant interactions for redaction tools.</li> <li>Build and maintain real-time features using WebSockets and SignalR to support concurrent multi-user workflows.</li> <li>Work closely with backend engineers to consume REST APIs, defining contracts that ensure efficient data flow and optimal UX.</li> <li>Manage frontend deployments on AWS and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines to ensure rapid, reliable delivery.</li> <li>Identify and resolve frontend bottlenecks (rendering lag, memory leaks, bundle size) to ensure a seamless user experience under heavy load.</li> </ul> <h3><strong>Ownership & Execution</strong></h3> <ul> <li>Turn ambiguous product requirements into well-defined technical tasks and execution plans.</li> <li>Take full ownership of major frontend domains, driving them from initial design through to production deployment.</li> <li>Make independent technical decisions regarding frontend state management, component architecture, and styling patterns.</li> <li>Drive frontend decisions in cross-functional work, ensuring the system design is robust and provides the best possible user experience.</li> <li>Be accountable for the reliability, performance, and accessibility of the features you ship.</li> </ul> <h3><strong>Team Contribution</strong></h3> <ul> <li>Conduct thorough code reviews and uphold high engineering standards for the frontend guild.</li> <li>Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to long-term frontend roadmap decisions.</li> <li>Mentor junior and mid-level engineers to support their technical growth.</li> <li>Contribute to hiring by reviewing technical assessments and interviewing prospective candidates.</li> </ul> <h3><strong>Qualifications (Required)</strong></h3> <ul> <li>6+ years of experience owning and delivering complex frontend applications or major features end-to-end.</li> <li>Strong proficiency in React, Next.js, and TypeScript.</li> <li>Deep understanding of modern frontend architecture, state management, and hooks.</li> <li>Solid experience working with REST APIs and real-time communication via WebSockets or SignalR.</li> <li>Practical experience working with WebGL, HTML5 Canvas, or complex browser-based document/video manipulation.</li> <li>Professional experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and AWS deployment strategies.</li> <li>Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across a hybrid team.</li> </ul> <h3><strong>Qualifications (Preferred)</strong></h3> <ul> <li>Experience building heavy, data-intensive web applications (e.g., editors, design tools, or analytical Dashboards).</li> <li>Knowledge of frontend security best practices (CSPRNG, XSS prevention, secure storage).</li> <li>Experience with AWS services relevant to frontend/custom Next.js hosting (CloudFront, S3, ECS).</li> <li>Familiarity with Tailwind CSS or advanced CSS-in-JS libraries.</li> </ul> <h3><strong>What We Offer:</strong></h3> <ul> <li>Meaningful equity - we believe in sharing ownership with the people who build the company</li> <li>Competitive base salary alongside an equity-heavy compensation package</li> <li>Hybrid working - flexibility to work remotely with regular in-person collaboration</li> <li>Direct influence over architecture, engineering culture, and the technical roadmap</li> <li>Opportunity to take ownership of critical backend domains in a growing cloud platform</li> <li>A small, high-trust team that moves fast, values craftsmanship, and ships quality software</li> <li>Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance</li> <li>401K</li> <li>Paid Vacation</li> <li>Ten paid holidays per year</li> <li>Friendly and Learning environment</li> </ul> <p><strong>Salary+ Equity Range:</strong> $120,000 to $170,000</p> <h3><strong>About CaseGuard</strong></h3> <p>CaseGuard is a software company that helps law enforcement agencies, federal agencies, hospitals, schools, airports, and others manage all their media redaction needs in one easy-to-use redaction software.
