Senior Software Developer

About this role

We are seeking a Senior Developer to join our cloud-native software engineering team responsible for building and operating a modern Azure-based platform and on premise solutions in the Rail sector. The role combines development, technical direction, and development ownership, with a strong focus on Kubernetes, C#/.NET, and adoption of AI-driven capabilities across our products and services. You will play a key role in defining the future technical roadmap, ensuring our platform remains scalable, secure, and ready to leverage emerging technologies, including AI and intelligent automation. Technical Design & Architecture

Contribute to design, development, and implementation of cloud-based and edge-based software solutions using C#/.NET.

Recommendation of technical design decisions for complex systems spanning Azure-hosted services, distributed applications, and on-board software agents running on unmanned hardware.

Define and drive software architecture, ensuring solutions are scalable, resilient, secure, maintainable, and aligned with long-term business objectives.

Establish engineering standards, design patterns, and development best practices across teams.

Software Development & System Ownership

Take ownership of critical applications and services throughout their lifecycle, from design and delivery through to operational support and continuous improvement.

Lead the resolution of complex technical challenges, production incidents, and cross-system integration issues.

Drive performance optimisation, reliability improvements, and technical debt reduction initiatives.

Ensure applications meet high standards for performance, security, quality, and operational excellence.

Cloud, Infrastructure & DevOps

Work with infrastructure team on the design and evolution of Azure infrastructure, deployment strategies, observability, and operational practices.

Drive DevOps maturity through automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD enhancements, and deployment governance.

Establish monitoring, logging, alerting, and recovery strategies for cloud and edge-based systems.

Champion security, compliance, and resilience best practices across the software delivery lifecycle.

Distributed Systems & Messaging

Lead the design and implementation of scalable messaging and integration architectures using message orientated architecture, event-driven patterns, and distributed systems principles.

Define communication standards and strategies for interactions between cloud services and remote hardware deployments.
