We are all accountable for sustaining a diverse and inclusive environment.</p></div><h2><strong>What You Will Contribute To Altos</strong></h2> <p>As a Structural Biology Senior Scientist at Altos Labs, you will be at the forefront of innovative research in understanding the molecular mechanisms of disease with a focus on aging and rejuvenation. Your role will involve leading the protein biochemistry and structural biology function within the Institute of Medicine and applying these techniques to support our large- and small-molecule drug discovery portfolio. In addition, you will contribute to a strong culture of trust and teamwork, modelling the Altos Labs behaviors.</p> <p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p> <ul> <li>Lead experimental structural biology and protein biochemistry within the Institute of Medicine</li> <li>Develop and execute structural biology strategies (expression system, purification, structure determination method, etc.) to advance the Altos discovery portfolio from early target validation through lead optimization</li> <li>Collaborate with our in-house cryoEM core facility and CRO-based crystallographic facilities to deliver high-impact macromolecular structures</li> <li>Work collaboratively with cross-functional scientists to enable structure-based design on discovery programs across different modalities</li> <li>Represent structural biology and protein biochemistry on cross-functional project teams, and contribute to building and progressing the pipeline</li> <li>Manage external research activities conducted by CROs and collaborators</li> <li>Mentor and supervise junior scientists and technicians</li> </ul> <h2><strong>Who You Are</strong><strong>&nbsp;</strong></h2> <p><strong>Minimum Qualifications</strong></p> <ul> <li>PhD in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related discipline</li> <li>6+ years of experience in biotech or the pharmaceutical industry supporting structural biology efforts in large- or small-molecule drug discovery programs</li> <li>Proven track record of high-resolution structure determination using X-ray crystallography or cryoEM</li> <li>Strong publication record demonstrating expertise in structural biology</li> <li>Experience managing external CRO activities supporting protein production, X-ray crystallography, and cryoEM structure determination.</li> <li>Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong></p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated expertise in protein engineering or structure-guided protein design</li> <li>Familiarity with structure-based drug design workflows and collaboration with medicinal/computational chemistry groups</li> <li>Experience developing strategy for structurally intractable targets</li> <li>Experience using structure prediction tools (e.g., AlphaFold, RosettaFold, Boltz) in an applied drug discovery setting</li> <li>Ability to communicate the nuances of protein biochemistry to non-specialist stakeholders and executive leadership, ensuring alignment on project milestones</li> <li>Experience in people management</li> </ul> <p>The salary range for Redwood City, CA:</p> <ul> <li><strong>Senior Scientist I, Structural Biology</strong>: $172,400 - $221,000</li> </ul> <p>Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.</p> <p>#LI-NN1</p> <p>For UK applicants, before submitting your application:</p> <p>- Please click here to read the Altos Labs EU and UK Applicant Privacy Notice (<a href="https://bit.ly/eu_uk_privacy_notice" target="_blank">bit.ly/eu_uk_privacy_notice</a>)<br>- This Privacy Notice is not a contract, express or implied and it does not set terms or conditions of employment.</p><div class="content-conclusion"><h2><strong>Equal Opportunity Employment</strong></h2> <p class="s6"><span class="s5">We value collaboration and scientific excellence.</span></p> <p class="s6"><span class="s5">We believe that a culture of belonging are foundational to scientific innovation and inquiry.
