Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking a Senior Process & Mechanical Designer to provide technical leadership in the design and development of industrial process systems, including skid-based and modular equipment. This role is ideal for an experienced designer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, developing practical design solutions, and guiding projects from initial concept through fabrication and deployment.
You bring deep expertise in mechanical and process design, strong technical judgment, and the ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines. You are comfortable leading design reviews, working directly with clients, and mentoring others while maintaining a hands-on approach to design execution.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to influence technical decisions, establish design best practices, and drive improvements that strengthen quality, efficiency, and project delivery.
What You Get To Do
• Lead the design and development of industrial process systems, including skid-based and modular equipment, from concept through detailed design and release.
• Develop and review technical requirements, 3D models, general arrangement drawings, equipment layouts, and piping designs.
• Solve complex design challenges through engineering analysis, simulation, validation, and sound technical judgment.
• Lead internal and client-facing design reviews, presenting solutions and resolving technical challenges.
• Collaborate with mechanical, structural, electrical, and controls teams to deliver integrated system designs.
• Partner with fabrication and field service teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, safe, and aligned with project requirements.
• Support project proposals, cost estimates, and execution planning to meet scope, schedule, and budget expectations.
• Mentor designers and engineers while establishing design standards, tools, and best practices.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance design quality, standardization, and efficiency.
What You Bring To The Team
• 10+ years of experience in industrial process and/or mechanical design within an engineering or industrial environment.
• Associate or bachelor's degree in Drafting/Design, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD 2D/3D and SolidWorks.
• Experience developing mechanical and process designs, including 3D modeling, detailed drawings, simulation, and engineering analysis.
• Strong ability to gather technical requirements, solve complex design challenges, and apply practical engineering principles.
• Experience developing engineering and project cost estimates.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions, collaborate across disciplines, and communicate effectively with clients and project teams.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently while supporting team objectives.
• Commitment to safe design practices and adherence to applicable safety standards and procedures.
• Ability to work on-site in Rochester and/or Rush, NY, with travel to client and supplier locations as needed (typically less than 25%).
Preferred Skills
• Experience leading the design of industrial equipment, modular process systems, or automation solutions.
• Advanced piping design, pressure vessel design, or pipe stress and structural frame analysis experience.
• Familiarity with Caesar II, SolidWorks FEA, ANSYS, or similar analysis tools.
• Experience working with 3D point clouds.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems and Lean, Six Sigma, or related continuous improvement methodologies.
