About this role

About Auror

At Auror, we’re empowering the retail industry to tackle theft and Organised Retail Crime, a $150 Billion problem globally. It’s high volume crime that’s increasingly organised in nature and is putting people, retailers, and communities at risk every day.

Founded in New Zealand 11 years ago, we’re working with some of the best and largest retailers in the world across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. Auror is connecting people and intelligence to reduce crime. We’re using technology for good.

In partnership with our leading retail partners, we need people with the passion, determination, and innovation required to overcome one of the world's largest problems. If you’re looking to make a difference with and for the people dedicated to stopping crime, for good, then we want you on our team.

We're also embracing the potential of AI to supercharge our impact—whether that's enhancing the way we detect trends, support our customers, or improve internal workflows. As a company, we're committed to responsibly incorporating AI into how we work and what we build, and we encourage all Aurors to be curious about how AI can elevate their work, regardless of role or function.

About Auror Engineering

Collaboration is at the heart of the Engineering team at Auror. We believe that we can only build the very best software by working with each other and seeking different perspectives to solve problems. We’re a team that:

- Ship code to production constantly: Our product team ships code to production on average at least 10-15 times a day prioritising small releases and short feedback cycles and we do this with a minimal defect rate.

- Work on cloud native architecture: We focus on delivering business value to customers, without the burden of maintaining complex infrastructure

- Work on innovative and up to date tech stacks: We are constantly evolving our technology stack inline with the needs of our business, leveraging React and Typescript for front-end and C# / Dotnet for back end. We host our services in Azure and utilise a wide range of cloud-native services with an evolving service-oriented architecture.

- Contribute to our product: We work with Product Management and Product Design from the very beginning to make sure we’re delivering value to our customers and making a meaningful impact.

- Supports a coaching culture: Together, we support one another to level up

- Continuously improve: We are relentless about getting better and improving our processes, tooling and tech stack.

The Role – Senior Software Engineer (Full-Stack)

Retail crime rarely shows up as a single incident — it's a network of people, vehicles, and events scattered across stores, cases, and even different retailers. Our Investigate product enables our customers to turn that scattered evidence into a real case: linking entities, building timelines, tracking outcomes, and collaborating across organisations to get from suspicion to prosecution.

We're looking for a Senior Full-Stack Engineer to join the Investigate stream. You'll work across the platform that powers loss prevention teams and law enforcement — from entity link analysis and case timelines to evidence management and cross-org collaboration — as we scale it to handle the largest, most complex investigations our customers run. You'll build full-stack, from UX through APIs to the underlying data model, working shoulder-to-shoulder with talented engineers, product designers, data scientists, and product managers who all live and breathe this problem with you.

The scope of what counts as an "investigation" is expanding fast — from digital fraud to national crime syndicates, from single events to cases spanning many events and many people. That means more data, more connections, and a growing need to actually visualise and make sense of it, working closely with our Data and other Engineering teams on the dashboards and reporting that turn a tangle of links into something investigators can act on.

If you want to build something with real teeth, where the code you ship helps turn scattered evidence into a real case — and helps stop organised retail crime at scale — this is that room.

Location: We are also open to considering fully remote candidates within New Zealand.

Practically, this will involve:

- Shipping customer-facing features that improve how users explore, understand, and act on data

- Owning delivery end-to-end, from shaping the approach with your team through to build, test, release, and production support

- Building clean, responsive UI in React + TypeScript, with attention to usability, performance, and real-world workflows

- Designing and extending backend services and APIs in C# / .NET

- Working with data-driven systems and contributing to how insights are surfaced in the product

- Making pragmatic decisions in a cloud-native environment (Azure & GCP), balancing performance, reliability, and cost

- Breaking work into small, iterative increments so value is delivered continuously

- Debugging issues across the stack using logs, metrics, and user feedback

- Writing maintainable, well-tested code that the team can build on

- Collaborating closely with engineers, product, and design through pairing, reviews, and shared problem solving

Requirements

As one of our Software Engineers, you will bring the following:

- Bias to action & ownership: You take full ownership of complex problem spaces bringing urgency, focus, and accountability. You’re not afraid to make pragmatic calls, remove blockers, and drive initiatives forward, even in the face of ambiguity or lack of consensus.

- Technical mastery and judgment: Strong expertise in React, TypeScript & C# .NET Core, and cloud-native architectures or something similar. You know how to design distributed systems with clear domain boundaries that balance scalability, performance, security, and usability, and you can…
