Payments Team Lead

About this role
ThePayments Team Lead owns the performance and service quality of Leadtech's payment ecosystem across two complementary functions: a Revenue Optimization team, focused on maximizing authorization rates and transaction profitability across PSPs and payment methods, and an Account Management team, which acts as the internal payments partner to Leadtech's business units, managing payment strategy on a B2B basis within the company.
This person must bring a very strong technical/analytical leadership (data-driven AR improvement, PSP economics, APM evaluation) together with internal stakeholder management (service quality, account ownership, cross-BU coordination), to successfully manage and develop the two direct sub-teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Payment & Revenue Optimization
• Monitor and optimize payment performance and transaction profitability across PSPs and business units.
• Analyze Payment Authorization Rates (AR), decline reasons, traffic distribution and payment performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Support the implementation of payment optimization initiatives, including 3DS, network tokens, retry logic, routing rules and data enrichment.
• Evaluate new Alternative Payment Methods (APMs) and PSP optimization tools based on business impact, customer experience and ROI.
• Work with internal stakeholders and external PSPs to identify and resolve payment performance issues.
• Build and maintain dashboards and reporting to support day-to-day payment decision-making, including AR, decline reasons and PSP/MID performance.
2. Internal Account Management & Business Partnership
• Own and proactively manage the payment strategy for each business unit
• Act as a trusted payments partner for Leadtech's business units, understanding their payment needs and supporting them in achieving their business goals.
• Provide recommendations on PSP and APM mix based on business requirements, traffic profiles and risk considerations.
• Proactively communicate payment performance, incidents, opportunities and relevant roadmap initiatives to internal stakeholders.
• Coordinate payment-related requirements for new business needs, including new MIDs, markets, PSPs and payment methods.
• Establish effective communication and escalation processes with business units and relevant internal teams.
3. Team Leadership
• Lead and support a Payments team across Revenue Optimization and Account Management activities.
• Set priorities and coordinate workload based on business impact, urgency and team capacity.
• Coach and develop team members, providing guidance, feedback and support to help them grow their capabilities.
• Help establish team objectives and contribute to the achievement of Payments & Risk OKRs.
• Act as a point of escalation between the team and other Payments & Risk functions, including Risk Analytics, Finance and Partnerships.
• Report on team performance, key challenges and progress to the Payments & Risk Manager.
4. Cross-Functional Coordination
• Partner with Risk & Compliance on payment-related risk and chargeback initiatives that may impact authorization rates and routing decisions.
• Collaborate with external payment orchestration partners and PSP account managers on routing, enrichment, APM and other payment-related initiatives.
• Work closely with Product, Engineering, Finance, Risk and business stakeholders to ensure payment initiatives are aligned with business priorities.
• Ensure payment optimization initiatives are evaluated from both a performance and business-unit perspective before implementation.
Success Metrics / KPIs
• Improvement in Payment Authorization Rate (AR), overall and by PSP/BU.
• Checkout conversion improvement.
• Revenue and performance impact from new APMs and PSP optimization initiatives.
• Payment performance and issue resolution times.
• Internal stakeholder satisfaction and adherence to agreed SLAs.
• Adoption and effective use of payment analytics and reporting tools.
Required SkillsExperience
• 5–8 years of overall professional experience, with 4–5 years in payments, fintech, e-commerce or a related environment.
• 2–3 years of people management experience or demonstrated informal/team leadership experience, with the ability to coach, prioritize and support others.
• Hands-on experience working with PSPs and payment performance, ideally with providers such as Stripe, Worldpay, Adyen, PayPal or similar.
• Practical experience analyzing authorization rates, decline reasons and payment performance, and identifying optimization opportunities.
• Experience working in a multi-PSP environment, with exposure to payment routing, orchestration and/or payment optimization.
• Experience with Alternative Payment Methods (APMs) and an understanding of their role in payment performance and customer conversion.
• Experience working with internal stakeholders, business units or account-management environments.
Skills
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret payment performance data and identify actionable insights.
• Good understanding of payment optimization concepts, including authorization rates, decline analysis, routing, retries, 3DS, tokenization and data enrichment.
• Working knowledge of APMs and multi-PSP payment environments.
• Working knowledge of data and reporting tools such as Excel/Google Sheets and BI tools (e.g. Qlik, Tableau, Power BI).
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
• Ability to work hands-on while also coordinating and supporting a small team.
Nice to Have
• Experience with payment orchestration platforms or advanced routing solutions.
• Familiarity with card-scheme risk and compliance programs, including Mastercard/Visa chargeback monitoring.
• Experience working with international markets and different payment methods.
• Fluent Spanish.
