About this role
ABOUT MELIUS
Melius is building the agents lab for creative work.
We’re creating a new category of AI-native creative tooling: a collaborative workspace where humans and agents generate, edit, and orchestrate images, videos, and audio together, allowing users to steer and have full creative control of their workflows. Instead of jumping between fragmented tools, prompts, and workflows, Melius gives artists, creators, and teams an entire ecosystem to direct AI end-to-end.
Our platform combines real-time collaborative infrastructure, multimodal AI models, and agentic workflows to help brands, studios, and creative teams store, create, and polish high-quality creative output at a scale never seen before.
We’re based in New York City, backed by top-tier investors, and focused on building one of the defining creative software companies of the AI era.
THE ROLE
We’re looking for a Member of Technical Staff to help build the core product and infrastructure behind Melius.
You’ll work across the entire stack: Next.js and a real-time multiplayer canvas on the frontend, Typescript / Postgres / Temporal on the backend, and the agent orchestration layer that ties everything together.
All engineers at Melius own features end-to-end , from shaping product interactions with design, to schema migrations, to production rollout. We value engineers who move quickly, think from first principles, and care deeply about product quality and user experience.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Build and ship product across the full stack, from frontend interactions to backend infrastructure and orchestration systems.
- Design new tools and capabilities for our agents: what they can see on the canvas, what other interfaces it should live on, and how they communicate reasoning back to users.
- Rethink how creatives interact with AI systems through interfaces that go beyond traditional chat experiences.
- Improve agent planning and orchestration loops so the system selects the right models, workflows, and next actions autonomously.
- Build infrastructure for long-running, multi-step creative workflows, including branching, retries, and human-in-the-loop interactions on top of Temporal.
- Develop evals, traces, and internal tooling to measure and improve agent quality over time.
- Work closely with founders, design, and product to define the future of AI-native creative workflows.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 3+ years of experience building production software at high-growth technology companies or startups.
- Strong experience with TypeScript across both frontend and backend systems.
- Product-minded engineer with strong ownership and the ability to operate autonomously.
- Experience building frameworks, tooling, and interfaces for agents
- Strong taste for product quality, interaction design, and developer craftsmanship.
- Excited about the intersection of AI, creativity, and tooling.
- Comfortable working in-person from our NYC office 5 days a week.
Bonus points if you’ve worked with:
- Real-time multiplayer systems
- AI image/video generation pipelines
- Creative tool software development
