Manager, Summer Math Enrichment (NYC - Hybrid)
Beam · NYC · 2026-07-15
About this role

About BEAM

Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics (BEAM) creates pathways for students from low-income, low-access backgrounds to become scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and computer scientists.

We provide BEAM students the same access to high-quality preparation in STEM as their more affluent peers, and we invest deeply in our students' success, with programming from middle school through college graduation focused on joyous, exciting, and rigorous mathematics, building vibrant communities, and supporting students in key life transitions such as college admissions and financial aid.

BEAM has grown from a small summer program serving 17 students in the summer of 2011 to a year-round, national program, serving 450+ students at six summer program sites and 600+ students in year-round programming in New York City and Los Angeles this school year. In addition, our BEAM National pilot program now reaches around 1000 elementary-aged students in seven different states, working to create a new nationwide pathway modeled on our local work. We've seen our students' successes first-hand, and it's backed by data: a quasi-experimental study found that students who attended our 7th grade summer program were 1.3X as likely to declare a STEM major as a matched comparison group.

DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION

The Manager, Summer Math Enrichment leads BEAM’s local NYC Program team’s efforts to fully enroll and implement BEAM’s summer math enrichment programs for 6th and 7th grade New York City students. BEAM's summer math enrichment programs are unlike that of most other programs. Focusing on problem solving (and, in particular, students learning to solve novel problems that they haven't been explicitly taught), mathematical reasoning, and how students synthesize ideas into big-picture perspectives unlocks a deeper appreciation for math and a long term interest in STEM. BEAM Discovery, our day camp for rising 7th graders, serves 100-150 students per site and focuses on building math self-confidence and appreciation. BEAM Summer Away, our residential camp for rising 8th graders, serves 40-50 students per site and with a greater emphasis on rigor and perseverance. Both summer programs seek to build a strong community among staff and students with a common interest in STEM.

BEAM students often describe their summer with BEAM as a life-changing experience. It is the catalyst for developing self-confidence in math, and inspiring students to pursue a career in a quant-based STEM field long term. As the Manager, you will have the opportunity to impact NYC students at the very beginning of their journey with BEAM and set them on a long term path for success.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Leadership & Staff Management (15%)

Lead the NYC Summer Math Enrichment team with clear goals, reflection cycles, and collaborative practices

Define and delegate clear roles and responsibilities across the NYC Summer Programs team that cover all the required tasks for planning and implementing your team’s summer programs

Develop and maintain project management and data tracking tools to monitor the ongoing implementation of summer planning tasks and progress toward summer planning goals

Centralized Summer Program Collaboration (20%)

Support the design and facilitation of site leadership training and pre-camp training for all summer staff

Collaborate with the Central Summer Program team and Human resources in developing a sustainable recruitment strategy for NY summer staff and implement localized initiatives and/or partnerships that contribute to the hiring goals.

Support recruitment, interviews, and selection of seasonal summer staff for all summer sites

Support the development of program model improvements, including schedules, policies, and camp management resources, that address pain points from previous summers

Local Summer Program Enrollment & Logistics (45%)

Plan and lead the team’s school partnership and admissions strategy to fully enroll all summer program locations with eligible, strong-fit NYC…
