THE OPPORTUNITY
We're looking for an IT Intern to give undergraduate students in technology-related programs a real foothold in the industry — not just exposure, but actual ownership of work that matters. This isn't a shadow-and-observe internship. You'll be embedded in Kin's IT department at our Chicago office, doing the hands-on work that keeps a fast-growing insurtech company running.
From imaging laptops and managing device inventory to triaging helpdesk requests and supporting employee onboarding and offboarding, you'll touch the full operational reality of IT at a tech company. By the time you leave, you'll have experience you can speak to concretely — because you did it, not watched it.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Image and deploy computers for Kin's local and remote workforce
- Participate in tier-1 helpdesk requests, resolving employee issues with speed and care
- Execute onboarding and offboarding logistics for employees as it relates to IT equipment
- Manage and audit physical IT asset inventory (laptops, monitors, mobile devices) weekly
- Oversee mobile device management across the organization via JumpCloud
- Provide audio/visual support for in-office meetings and events
- Triage cybersecurity issues and enforce security policies in coordination with Kinfosec
- Maintain physical security infrastructure at office locations, including cameras and keycard readers
SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE
In your internship at Kin, success is less about checking boxes and more about the impact you create. You’ll use your skills and judgment to take ownership of meaningful work, improve how we operate, and help move Kin’s mission forward. Along the way, you’ll deliver outcomes that make a real difference for both Kinfolk and the homeowners we serve.
By the end of your internship, you should feel confident in your role, trusted as an owner, and proud of the progress you’ve helped make.
You've built a working knowledge of the IT tools and systems used in a real tech environment — ones you can speak to confidently in future interviews and on your resume
- IT asset inventory is accurate, well-documented, and consistently maintained because of the systems you've owned
- Employees across the organization have experienced faster, more reliable tier-1 support during your term
- You leave with a clearer sense of how enterprise IT operations work and a stronger foundation for your career in technology
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Currently enrolled in a CIS, IT, computer science, or related undergraduate program
- Ability to diagnose and clearly communicate technical issues and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Comfort working cross-functionally with people at all levels — from fellow interns to executives — with consistent professionalism and empathy
- Genuine curiosity about technology and enthusiasm for learning new systems and tools in a fast-moving environment
- Ability to provide in-office support at Kin's Chicago location, 20–25 hours per week
HOW WE HIRE
We believe a great hiring experience should be clear, respectful, and human. We’ll accept applications for this position until July 10, 2026. While our recruiting team uses AI tools for efficiency, resumes are still screened by Kin’s in-house recruiters, and candidate evaluations and hiring decisions are made by recruiters and hiring teams. Rest assured, real people make real decisions.
The hiring process and timeline for each role will vary, depending on the position. However, here are some things you can expect from us:
- Prompt updates and feedback following interviews
- Interviews with recruiters, hiring managers, and members of teams
- Skills assessment relevant to the position, if applicable
- Genuine, thoughtful human interaction at every step
HOW WE SUPPORT YOU
This position is part time, with the expectation of 20–25 hours per week, and not eligible for employee benefits.
HOW WE WORK
We don’t just hire for skills. We hire for alignment. Kinfolk bring diverse perspectives, but we’re united by a shared set of values that shape how we work and how we show up for each other and our customers.
