About this role

Our client is an established international energy and commodities trading business with a strong presence across the Asian market. They are looking for an experienced Head of Shipping to lead the shipping function and oversee the efficient execution of cargo movements across international markets.

The Role

• Lead and oversee the end-to-end shipping and cargo management activities across the business

• Manage vessel nominations, chartering, freight and voyage execution for crude and petroleum product cargoes

• Work closely with traders and commercial teams to optimise vessel utilisation, freight costs and overall cargo economics

• Oversee relationships with shipowners, brokers, charterers, terminals, agents and other key industry stakeholders

• Evaluate and negotiate freight and chartering arrangements, including spot and time charter opportunities

• Monitor vessel schedules, cargo readiness, laycans and voyage performance to ensure smooth execution

• Oversee post-fixture matters including demurrage, claims, freight settlements and other voyage-related issues

• Identify opportunities to improve freight efficiency, cargo movements and overall operational performance

• Provide shipping market insights and recommendations to support commercial and trading decisions

• Lead, develop and manage the shipping team while establishing effective processes and controls

• Ensure shipping activities are conducted in line with commercial objectives, contractual requirements and relevant industry standards

What We’re Looking For

• Degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Business, Economics or a related discipline

• Strong experience in shipping, chartering, freight or cargo operations, ideally within an energy / commodities trading environment

• Solid exposure to crude oil and/or petroleum product shipping

• Strong understanding of vessel chartering, freight markets, voyage economics and cargo execution

• Established network across shipowners, brokers, charterers, terminals and other maritime stakeholders

• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance operational requirements and trading objectives

• Proven experience leading and developing a shipping / operations team

• Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, international trading environment
