About this role

ICON is looking for an Electrical Drafting Technician to support the design and development of electrical systems used in industrial automation. This role involves creating detailed schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and documentation based on engineering specifications to support manufacturing, installation, and maintenance of automated systems. This is a full-time, onsite position based on our Austin, Texas HQ Campus and reports to the Manager of Electrical Engineering.

RESPONSIBLITIES


Develop and revise electrical drawings, including: Control panel layouts Wiring diagrams Schematics and interconnect diagrams


Collaborate with electrical engineers and automation engineers to interpret design requirements


Prepare drawings for PLC-based control systems, motor controls, and instrumentation


Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., NEC, UL, IEC)


Maintain drawing standards, templates, and documentation control systems


Update drawings based on redlines, field changes, and project revisions


Assist in bill of materials (BOM) creation and component selection


Coordinate with manufacturing and installation teams to ensure accuracy of designs


Support troubleshooting by updating as-built drawings

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


3+ years of drafting experience, preferably in industrial automation or controls


Proficiency in CAD software such as: AutoCAD Electrical EPLAN (preferred)


Understanding of electrical symbols, control systems, and panel design


Familiarity with PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.)


Knowledge of electrical codes and standards (NEC, NFPA 79, UL508A)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE


Associate degree or technical diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Drafting, or related field


Experience with industrial automation systems (conveyors, robotics, packaging lines, etc.)


Knowledge of instrumentation and field devices (sensors, actuators, VFDs)


Experience working with ERP or PLM systems


Basic understanding of programming or control logic (ladder logic, HMI interfaces)


Strong attention to detail and accuracy


Ability to interpret engineering concepts and translate them into technical drawings


Good communication and teamwork skills


Time management and ability to handle multiple projects
