This work requires a relentless drive to solve complex challenges with real-world stakes. We are looking for builders and owners who operate with speed and urgency and execute with excellence.
This is an opportunity to do career-defining work. We're all in on this mission. If you are too, let's talk.
The Director, Engineering Opportunity
You will lead the engineering charter for the Okta Integration Network, driving the evolution of a platform that powers 8,000+ integrations across the Okta ecosystem. This role oversees distributed teams in the US and India and is accountable for delivering secure, scalable, standards‑based integration capabilities.
You will shape the roadmap for cross‑app identity security, expand the OIN catalog and strengthen enterprise‑grade extensibility. The role expects acquaintance in IAM standards like OAuth, OIDC, SAML, SCIM, and governance workflows, along with strong architectural judgment in building distributed systems, APIs, SDKs, and developer‑focused integration frameworks.
You will partner closely with product, security, and AI teams to secure emerging agent‑driven interactions and deliver high‑reliability services with strong operational rigor. Success requires exceptional cross‑geo leadership, the ability to drive multi‑quarter programs, influence standards, and cultivate a high‑performance engineering culture while ensuring the OIN remains the industry’s most trusted and comprehensive identity integration network.
What you’ll be doing
• Lead, recruit, and mentor multiple teams of engineers, architects and engineering managers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and psychological safety.
• Partner closely with senior leaders in Product Management and Design to define a compelling product vision and execute a multi-year roadmap.
• Own and manage the operational rhythm of your organization, establishing metrics and processes to ensure engineering excellence and predictable delivery.
• Represent your teams and strategy in senior leadership forums and company-wide reviews, translating technical progress into data-driven narratives.
• Partner with finance teams to manage budget cycles and control costs for your groups.
• Build strong relationships with other engineering leaders and stakeholders across the organization to ensure alignment and drive complex, cross-functional projects to completion.
• Driving strategic adoption of AI tooling and automation within engineering processes to unlock velocity improvements
What you’ll bring to the role
• 12+ years of experience in software development, with a proven track record of leading high-performing engineering organizations, including experience managing other managers.
• Experience with public cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP) and container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated success in collaborating with product and design counterparts to build and execute a long-term, customer-focused roadmap.
• Exceptional coaching and mentoring skills, with a passion for developing engineering talent at all levels.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a large, globally distributed organization
Additional requirements:
