The Role

Your role

We are looking for a Database Consultant to join our Database Consulting team and participate in a large-scale enterprise database assessment, optimization, and modernization project.

The client operates approximately 1,700 relational databases distributed across multiple environments and platforms. Most of the estate is deployed on-premises, although some databases are also hosted in the cloud.

The technology landscape is heterogeneous and primarily consists of:

• Oracle

• Microsoft SQL Server

• PostgreSQL

• MySQL

• IBM Db2

The selected candidate will combine strong DBA expertise with analytical and consulting skills, contributing both to the overall assessment of the database estate and to the definition and execution of improvement and remediation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in the technical assessment of an estate of approximately 1,700 databases.

• Perform discovery, inventory, and characterization of the various database platforms.

• Analyze database versions, configurations, lifecycle status, and operational health.

• Identify risks and improvement opportunities related to:
• Performance

• Capacity and growth

• Availability

• Backup and recovery

• High Availability and Disaster Recovery

• Security

• Monitoring

• Versions and obsolescence

• Configuration and adherence to best practices

• Analyze large volumes of data and identify patterns and trends.

• Define technical recommendations and action plans.

• Classify and prioritize databases based on risk, criticality, and remediation requirements.

• Participate in remediation, modernization, and rationalization initiatives.

• Perform advanced database administration and troubleshooting activities.

• Participate in upgrades, migrations, consolidations, and cross-platform database movements.

• Analyze complex performance and availability issues.

• Design and develop scripts to automate discovery, assessment, and administration processes.

• Contribute to the definition of standards and best practices.

• Prepare technical reports and executive presentations.

• Collaborate with infrastructure, application, cloud, and operations teams.

• Provide guidance and technical mentoring to junior team members.

Technologies

Strong experience is required in one or more of the following technologies:

• Oracle Database

• Microsoft SQL Server

• PostgreSQL

• MySQL

• IBM Db2

Experience across multiple database platforms and previous work within heterogeneous environments will be highly valued.

It is not necessary to be an expert in all technologies.

DBA Skills

Experience in several of the following areas:

• Database administration

• Performance tuning and troubleshooting

• Backup and recovery

• High Availability and Disaster Recovery

• Monitoring

• Capacity planning and growth analysis

• Security

• Patching and upgrades

• Migrations and consolidations

• Configuration analysis

• Database lifecycle management

Assessment and Consulting

Previous experience in the following areas will be highly valued:

• Database discovery

• Database assessment

• Health checks

• Analysis of large database inventories

• Risk identification and classification

• Recommendation development

• Platform rationalization and consolidation

• Database modernization

• Roadmap development

The candidate must be able to transform technical information into clear conclusions, actionable recommendations, and concrete improvement plans.

Automation

• Experience with scripting and automation.

• SQL / T-SQL / PL/SQL depending on the platform.

• PowerShell, Bash, and/or Python.

• Experience automating inventory, assessment, or database administration activities will be highly valued.

Cloud

Experience with databases deployed on the following cloud platforms will be considered an asset:

• Microsoft Azure

• AWS

• Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)

Who You Are

Experience

• +3 years of experience as a DBA, Database Consultant, or in a similar role.

• Experience working in large-scale enterprise environments.

• Experience managing and supporting large database estates.

• Hands-on experience with at least one of the listed database technologies, together with knowledge of other relational database platforms.

• Previous experience in database assessment, transformation, or modernization projects will be highly valued.
