Associate Principal Electrical Engineer – Interconnection Studies

Role Summary

Revamp is looking for an Associate Principal Electrical Engineer to lead interconnection and power systems studies for utility-scale solar and storage projects across the U.S. The studies you produce directly support the addition of renewable energy generation capacity to the north American power grid.

As an employee-owner on our growing team, you will be accountable for your assigned projects, scopes, budgets, and schedules, will serve as one of the discipline's main points of contact for clients and utilities, and mentor junior and mid-level engineers. Trust here is built through the quality of what you approve, and collaboration with our team of multidisciplinary stakeholders. This role may be performed remotely from almost anywhere in the US or Canada.

Salary range advertised above is in USD. In CAD, the range is $CAD 233,000 - 255,000.

Duties & Responsibilities

Core Technical & Functional Responsibilities

• Lead interconnection projects across ERCOT, PJM, CAISO, MISO, SPP, NYISO, and utility and cooperative systems.

• Guide clients from early plant sizing and application submission through scoping meetings, study reviews, mitigation discussions, and compliance closeout.

• Review ISO and utility study assumptions and results, identify issues, and direct responses or re-study requests.

• Lead large load interconnection modeling, assumptions, and study sensitivities.

• Develop steady-state and dynamic interconnection models to ISO and utility requirements.

• Perform and oversee RMS and EMT studies using PSS®E, PSLF, and PSCAD.

• Work with vendor and user-defined (UDM) inverter models, including model tuning and validation.

• Lead grid-following (GFL) and grid-forming (GFM) inverter modeling.

• Create and oversee the preparation of reports and presentations describing studies performed, solutions developed, and value delivered.

• Oversee Temporary Overvoltage, Transient Overvoltage studies for MV collection and substation designs.

Project & Portfolio Execution

• Oversee and guide the technical and delivery performance of a portfolio, or suite, of projects.

• Review and finalize scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments, and identify risks or deviations early.

• Collaborating with BD, prepare proposals for professional engineering services for projects and portfolios.

• Direct the staff necessary to complete assignments, including staff and mid-level engineers, and mentor them in technical practice.

• Plan, schedule, and coordinate documents and activities across multiple major projects or an entire portfolio.

Quality, Standards & Compliance

• Ensure alignment with applicable FERC Orders governing interconnection processes, relevant NERC reliability standards (including MOD, PRC, and FAC), and IEEE 1547 and IEEE 2800 as implemented by ISOs and utilities.

• Prepare and approve model validation and model quality test reports suitable for ISO and utility submittals and audits.

• Review interconnection packages, modeling files, and complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.

• Apply sound engineering judgment and standard company procedures to deliver accurate, defensible technical work products.

Collaboration & Communication

• As needed, will act as a supervisor of less experienced staff members.

• Act as the discipline's main point of contact for clients, ISOs, and utilities across a portfolio of interconnection projects.

• Communicate study impacts, mitigation options, and schedule risk to the developer services and design teams.

• Present study results, technical recommendations, and trade-offs to clients and internal stakeholders.

Program, Strategy & Innovation

• Track interconnection reforms, tariff changes, and modeling requirement updates, and set the team's response to them.

• Develop new techniques, tools, or improved processes for interconnection modeling and study production.

• Represent Revamp in industry working groups and stakeholder meetings.

• Advise upper-level management and staff as a technical specialist on interconnection matters.

Additional Responsibilities

• Perform essential duties including meeting deliverables and deadlines.

• Perform additional related duties as assigned or directed.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Required

• Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in electrical engineering (Power focus preferred).

• 8+ years of experience performing power system studies with a focus on generator and/or large load interconnection.

• Demonstrated hands-on experience with PSS®E, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN and other relevant software.

• Strong working knowledge of interconnection processes across multiple ISOs and utilities.

• Experience preparing interconnection models and supporting ISO/utility study review cycles.

• Strong technical writing skills, including preparation of formal submittals and compliance documentation.

• Ability to independently evaluate, select, and adapt modeling procedures and criteria for complex assignments.

• Demonstrated ability to lead engineering teams and client relationships across concurrent projects, and to mentor staff.

Preferred

• Experience supporting utility-scale renewable generation (solar, storage, hybrid resources).

• Prior experience representing owners/developers in ISO study processes.

• Participation in ISO stakeholder groups or industry working committees.

• Professional Engineer (PE or Canadian P.Eng) license preferred.

• Familiar with the components of Large Load models

• Experience with TSAT / TARA is desirable
