AI Specialist

About this role
Our client is a well-established US commercial electrical contractor — employee-owned, with decades of work on complex projects in healthcare, aviation, mission-critical data centers, commercial, industrial, and higher education sectors. They partner with leading national general contractors and have built their reputation on precision, safety, and engineering depth.
As the business invests in AI and automation as core operating infrastructure, they are hiring an AI Specialist to lead the function: evaluate the tools, design the workflows, train the people who will use them, and report on what actually moved the needle.
This is a hands-on strategist-operator role. You will not be writing strategy decks in isolation. You will be embedded with department leaders across estimating, recruiting, marketing, and project management — scoping use cases, prototyping in Power Automate or n8n, integrating with Microsoft 365 and line-of-business systems, and getting workflows adopted by teams that have done the work without AI for decades.
Within your first 90 days, success looks like 2–3 production AI workflows live in priority departments, each with documented SOPs, measurable time savings or accuracy gains, and active adoption by the team they were built for.
You will work alongside IT and security to ensure every solution clears compliance, data privacy, and risk review before it touches client data — a non-negotiable in this industry, where project documentation can include sensitive healthcare facility plans and mission-critical site drawings.
Responsibilities
Ecosystem Evaluation & AI Implementation
Audit the current software stack to identify automation and AI-integration opportunities with the strongest ROI
Design and deploy AI solutions using leading platforms — Microsoft Copilot, OpenAI / ChatGPT Enterprise, Anthropic Claude, Sora, and domain-specific tools
Stay current with generative AI advancements and recommend what to adopt, defer, or ignore
Workflow Automation & Cross-Departmental Integration
Build API connections, scheduled triggers, and multi-step workflows that streamline operations across estimating, recruiting, marketing, project management, and back office
Develop reusable prompt systems and frameworks the company can scale without rebuilding from scratch each time
Document workflows for repeatable, auditable, transferable execution
Stakeholder Engagement & Training
Partner with department leaders to identify high-leverage use cases and translate technical concepts into practical business applications
Train teams on adopting new AI tools and workflows — and remain accountable for whether adoption sticks
Write SOPs, internal guides, and onboarding documentation that get used, not shelved
Prototyping, Testing & Optimization
Prototype AI-assisted systems and rigorously test for accuracy, scalability, and ROI before broader rollout
Iterate based on usage data and stakeholder feedback
Recommend what to scale, what to refactor, what to sunset
Compliance, Security & Risk
Work with IT and security teams to ensure every AI solution meets compliance, data privacy, and risk management standards
Establish guardrails around what data can and cannot be processed in which tools
Reporting & ROI Analysis
Prepare clear, executive-ready reports on implemented AI solutions and their measurable business impact
Surface what is working, what is not, and what needs leadership decisions to move forward
Requirements
Requirements
3+ years of experience in AI systems development, automation design, or data integration
Hands-on production experience with workflow automation tools — at least two of Power Automate, Zapier, or n8n — including multi-step flows with conditional logic and error handling
Strong fluency with generative AI models and prompt engineering (ChatGPT Enterprise, Microsoft Copilot, Claude, or equivalent)
Scripting ability in Python, JavaScript, or similar for cases that exceed no-code capability
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field (Master's a plus)
Excellent problem-solving and stakeholder-engagement skills — comfortable presenting to and training department leaders
Working understanding of business operations in professional services, construction, or technical industries
Nice to Have
Experience using AI inside the Microsoft 365 ecosystem (Copilot Studio, Power Platform, SharePoint, Teams)
Familiarity with construction management platforms such as Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or PlanGrid
Prior work in construction, AEC, engineering services, or other operations-heavy industries
Experience preparing ROI reports and dashboards for executive stakeholders
